2013. “There is a secret bond between slowness and memory, between speed and forgetting.” This is a quote from the novel Slowness written by French-Czech novelist Milan Kundera who suggested the loss of pleasure of ‘slowness’ in today’s fast tracked world. I dare make the same inquisition because there is truth in Kundera’s idea.

Pasta Way

We don’t see people walking their pet turtle in the streets of 21st century Paris which, in the 19th century, was a noble pastime activity parisians engaged in for the enjoyment of slowness(hence the turtle). In fact, renown philosopher Walter Benjamin took slow, nonchalant walks with his turtle on busy streets to experience the contrast exposed by comparing his walks with the rapid movements of a metropolis. This is the idea behind this particular piece.

Pasta Way

It is my rendition of the idea that we have forgotten, perhaps even lost the beauty of slowness. I tried to express this through the death of a turtle, buried in pasta. The turtle has literally passed away, but in a sense “ pasta way.” The pun is there to show that even with the death of the “slow,” many people don’t take it seriously.
